New "Raptor" Fossil from China: Dinosaur or Bird?

Scientists recently described a new small raptor-like fossil from China named Jian changmaensis. While headlines and reconstructions can make it look like a complete animal, the actual fossil material is much more limited — mainly shoulder and wing bones, preserved in three dimensions. Jian comes from the Xiagou Formation, a rock layer already known for bird fossils such as Gansus yumenensis, including specimens with fragile soft tissue like feathers and webbed feet preserved.
